From museum classes to story times to nature walks, chances are there are lots of affordable – and even free – educational activities nearby that you and your children can enjoy together. Here are some budget-friendly places to look for kid-friendly outings:
Your local library. Most libraries offer regular story or music times for all ages. Your branch’s website should have a calendar to help you find the one that meets your family’s schedule.
Bookstores. Lots of bookstores host free baby and kids’ activities during the week and weekends, from story times and music to crafts.
Home improvement stores. If your older child likes to build things (or just pound stuff with a hammer), see if your local hardware or home improvement store has any free Saturday morning kid’s workshops. Older kids love the projects, and even though your baby may not be able to participate, he’ll probably love the noise and activity.
Museums. Some museums have one day of the week that they don’t charge admission, or at least let kids in free.
Parks. Your park department probably has some fun and healthy family activities scheduled, too, like guided nature walks or animal-themed crafts.
Pet stores. Speaking of animals, kids love the zoo, but it can get expensive to go over and over again. If you stop by your local pet store, you can still visit lots of live animals your kids will enjoy, and they may even get to pet a few.
