Whether it’s by car, train or plane, your first trip with more than one little one may seem a little daunting. But experienced moms know that a little planning can go a long way toward making traveling easy – and even fun – for all of you. These tips have worked for many moms on the move:
Travel at quieter times. Avoiding rush hours and busy travel days can help make your trip go more smoothly and lower the chance of delays.
Have extra supplies on hand. Many moms have found that adding a few more diapers and wipes than they think they’ll need can be a lifesaver. Also try to include an extra outfit for baby, zipper bags for any soiled outfits and a bottle of hand sanitizer to clean your hands when you can’t get to a sink.
Try to stick to your schedule. If you can plan your travel time around your baby’s nap time, he or she may be able to sleep a least a little bit along the way.
Bring water. Lots of moms find that a few small bottles are perfect for mixing formula, keeping themselves hydrated or spot-cleaning any messes along the way.
Tote toys. Bringing a combination of a few new toys and some old favorites is great for holding your little ones’ attention; many moms have also found that luggage tags, airline cards and plastic cups are even more fascinating – and free!
Ask for help. Many airlines have special lines, seating and other features for families with small children. Even if they don’t, some moms have found that just asking can get them a little special help or treatment.
