Signs Your Baby is Ready for Solid Foods

by Paula

Introducing your infant to solid foods is a fun and exciting time, but many moms have found that it can be challenging if they try to do it before their little one is ready. While your pediatrician will let you know when it’s time to start thinking about solids, your baby will send you some signals, too. Here are some of the signs that have let other moms know that their babies were ready for solid food:

  • Has doubled her birth weight
  • Can sit up and hold up her head without help
  • Does not push solid food out of her mouth with her tongue
  • Seems interested in the food on your plate or her sibling’s
  • Can grasp things with her thumb and forefinger
  • Can let you know she is full by turning away from the bottle or breast
