Finding precious “me time” can seem impossible with a new baby, especially if you work outside the home. We know you adore your family, but taking even just a few minutes for yourself from time to time can help keep you happier and more energized. Here are some quick and easy ways to carve out a few minutes just for you:
Ask for help. See if a relative or friend can give you little break. Budget-smart moms sometimes get a break by setting up babysitting exchanges, so they can each get a little time off for free.
Create a ritual. Busy moms are more likely to stick to something when it’s already scheduled into the day, so marking some me time on the calendar may work for you. Your special time can be as simple as a cup of tea with the paper in the morning, your favorite show in the evening or 15 minutes of reading before bed.
Sneak in a nap. We’ve all heard the phrase “sleep when the baby sleeps,” but not many of us actually do it. If you have the chance during the week or on weekends, let the chores wait and enjoy a snuggly snooze with your little ones.
Work it out. Whether it’s a walk with the stroller, a trip to the gym or some exercises at home, many moms find that getting moving actually reenergizes them.
Enjoy little luxuries. Some easy and affordable pick-me-ups that many frazzled moms count on include sweet treats like chocolate or ice cream, a bubble bath after the kids are asleep, or a few minutes with a favorite magazine. You’ve certainly earned it.
