Dynamic Dining

by Paula

The thought of taking more than one child to a restaurant can be daunting enough that some moms might just choose to stay home. But a dinner out can not only give you a night off from cooking, it can be lots of fun for you and your little ones, and help them learn about table manners to boot! To make the outing a good one, try some of these tips that have worked for other moms:

Choose the restaurant wisely. Most moms find that simple and casual is the way to go when dining out with little ones.

Go early. Avoiding peak dining times will help prevent a long wait for a table and slow service. Also, restaurants can be stimulating, so many moms find that the most successful outings are finished well before baby’s bedtime.

Sit smart. Try to sit near an exit so you can slip out quickly if you need to take your child for a little fresh air.

Make it quick. Some moms like to order as soon as they’re seated so the little ones don’t have to wait too long and get hungry – and bored.

Keep them busy. A few table toys will keep your baby and older child busy and out of trouble until the food arrives.

Watch for grabbing. Your little one may reach for everything, including drink glasses and sharp utensils. Be sure to clear everything out of the reach of little hands.

Know when to call it a night. It’s fine to ask for the check and leave suddenly if your baby starts melting down or has a diaper disaster. The staff and other diners will understand!
