If your toddler is not napping as well as he has in the past, it could be that it’s time to consider switching from two naps a day to one. While some moms call this “dropping” a nap and do it reluctantly, you’re really just rescheduling his sleep time, which may actually open up more time for you since you won’t have to schedule everything between two naps. Many moms have found that the following signs let them know their little ones were ready to switch to one daily nap:
- When you put him down for a nap, he fusses or plays in his crib for at least 30 minutes before falling asleep
- He only sleeps for a short time during the nap
- He can ride in the car or stroller in the morning without falling asleep
- He takes longer and longer to fall asleep at night
- He wakes frequently through the night
