Questions to Ask when Choosing Childcare

by Paula

Choosing a childcare provider is a big decision, and with so many options available, there’s no one right answer to suit every mom’s needs. Whether they’re considering in-home help or a child care center, many moms find it’s helpful to ask these questions to guide them in making the decision that’s right for them:

  • What licenses/accreditations do you have?
  • What are your hiring procedures?
  • What education do the care providers have?
  • What kind and how much child-care experience does the staff have?
  • Is the staff certified in CPR and first aid?
  • What is the staff/child ratio?
  • What kind of planned activities do you have?
  • Will my child go outside? Is the area fenced?
  • What is your discipline policy?
  • How do you communicate with parents and how can they communicate with you?
  • What nutritional guidelines do you follow for the children in your care?
  • What do you do if my child becomes ill or hurt?
  • What is a typical day like?
  • Can parents visit during the day?
