With a new baby at home, some moms are concerned about chemicals from cleaners and detergents in the air and on their household surfaces. But many find they can keep their home sparkling and fresh simply by using everyday products that they already have in their kitchens. Some of their favorite natural cleaning products include:
Vinegar. Many moms like to use vinegar as an all-purpose cleaner by diluting it with water. (Don’t worry about the smell; it disappears as soon as it dries.) It’s also great for removing grease and wax.
Baking soda. Most moms know it can deodorize the refrigerator, but baking soda can also be mixed with water to scour surfaces, or mixed with vinegar to unclog a drain.
Cola. A few pours of this dark soft drink can remove stains from toilet bowls and shine up stainless steel sinks.
Olive oil. For a gentle wood polish, some moms like to rub a few drops of olive oil onto surfaces with a soft cloth.
Lemon. A cut lemon half can disinfect surfaces like cutting boards and countertops, and running smaller chunks of lemon through your disposal will keep it fresh and clean.
Eco-friendly cleaners. A growing number of companies offer cleaning supplies that are made of more natural ingredients that may not only be better for your home, they’re better for the environment as well.
